Tactician Karples was a tactical officer seconded to the command staff of the Cadogus 52nd Imperial Guard regiment. He was the executive attaché for one of their senior officers, Major Berenson. Karples was killed on Jago along with Berenson, when the Valkyrie gunship transporting them to Hinzerhaus was shot down en route.

- Whether the members of the Tanith First saw Karples' ghost or a projection of Agun Soric's mind during their occupation of Hinzerhaus is open to debate.
